Any blackfish rods in your quiver Rohit?
Dec 28th, 2008, 3:37pm

Thought I'd regress to an earlier time and try luderick/float fishing again. I shouted myself an Okuma Sheffield centerpin to replace my old Trudex/Wilson BF combo but now can't seem to find a rod to suit.

The closest was a zebco rhino df special match 420, now discontinued Sad.
Another rod I considered was the Loomis STFR 1601, a little fast for my liking and a lot exxy

I'm thinking a
light to hold
long rod 12'-6"-14' ish
2-3 piece
slow action to suit the dragless pin reel
8-10lb(?) line weight
braid friendly guides
cork grip section/s
positive locking reel seat, not slip rings
hook keeper loop
butt long enough to tuck under one arm
soft enough for estury fish but with enough umph for ocean rock wall dwellers (will not be used for fishing ocean ledges)
I want the outfit neutral to butt heavy as opposed to tip heavy
fittings to match the reel, bling is ok but low weight is the priority
reel seat shortened up to match the reel for life

So, what do you think? Any ideas spring to mind?

Cheers Bill

G'day Bill
I do have something to suit what you are after perfectly. The rod is 13' and rated 6-10lb based on a Lamiglass cert pro blank. I think staying away from bling might be the call of the day as you dont want lots of flash above the fishes heads so black framed Fuji alconite guides and subdued wraps to suit. Grip consists of a lot higher then average quality full wells cork in a handle config that I have currently under development (not for public release yet). You can come over and check out setup I am talking about. Now hang on to something as I am about to hit you with the price.......$430. Now this is the high end rod quote using the best blank available. I also have a 12' in 4-8lb for $300. This is more of an eastuary stick but in the slim and light graphite config is a pleasure to use. I have this one in stock if you wanna eyeball it

If you can put up with old tech auusie blanks then the Pacific Composite GP 3145 G in two piece is the best of the locals. You will have to source this blank yourself and I can supply the parts and put it together for you for $180
